Emobi Partners with Japan's Musashi to Deploy Advanced e-Axle Technology

In an operational move aimed at accelerating drivetrain reliability and performance within India’s rapidly growing electric vehicle sector, Bengaluru-based EV start-up Emobi Manufactury Private Limited has officially announced a major technological partnership with Japanese mobility technology giant **Musashi Seimitsu Industry Co., Ltd. ** Under this collaboration, Emobi’s upcoming electric two-wheeler model, the AKX, will be entirely powered by Musashi’s advanced e-Axle EV drive unit.
The move marks another critical milestone in the start-up’s overarching corporate strategy to build robust, performance-oriented electric mobility solutions optimized specifically for sub-continental operating environments. Notably, the AKX becomes the second vehicle platform in Emobi's commercial portfolio to integrate Musashi’s proprietary powertrain technologies, following the strategic launch of the Kyari electric scooter back in November 2025.
Next-Gen Powertrain Engineering & Performance Benchmarks
Musashi’s specialized e-Axle technology has been heavily engineered to combine the electric motor, power inverter, and reduction gearbox into a unified, high-efficiency, and compact drive configuration. By transferring decades of sophisticated engineering know-how gained from developing transmission systems for traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) motorcycles, Musashi has successfully adapted its manufacturing expertise to high-stress electric mobility applications.
According to technical specifications released by the companies, the e-Axle unit is designed to maximize real-world riding dynamics under diverse urban driving conditions. The system guarantees exceptionally smooth acceleration from a complete standstill, superior pick-up torque response, and sustained acceleration throughput. Furthermore, the unit features a proprietary reduction gear mechanism explicitly optimized to minimize mechanical operation noise while simultaneously maintaining superior energy conversion efficiency levels. These performance benchmarks position the AKX to directly match or exceed the durability and power delivery characteristics of traditional petrol-powered scooters and motorcycles currently dominating the market.
Strategic Leadership Perspectives
Commenting on the expanding technological partnership, Naoya Nishimura, Chief Executive Officer for the Musashi India and Africa Region, stated that the company remains deeply committed to pioneering next-generation mobility architectures aligned with changing environmental needs. He noted that the integration of their e-Axle into the AKX highlights a strengthening relationship with Emobi, while pointing out that India's expanding electric vehicle landscape presents massive structural growth opportunities for localized Tier-1 component manufacturing.
In tandem, Bharath Rao, CEO and Co-Founder of Emobi, stressed that the AKX series has been designed with the rigorous everyday requirements of India’s commercial fleets and urban commuters at the center of its development cycle. He emphasized that collaborating with global technology leaders like Musashi enables the company to construct practical, highly reliable, and sustainable EV options that perform flawlessly under heavy duty cycles and real-world Indian riding constraints.
Macroeconomic Alignment and Local Production Scaling
The localized production timeline aligns perfectly with broader macroeconomic factors inside India, which remains the world’s largest two-wheeler market. With the central government setting an aggressive benchmark to transition up to 80% of all two-wheelers to electric alternatives by 2030, the demand for locally sourced, reliable powertrains is expanding exponentially.
Musashi has already established a localized supply footprint through its domestic joint venture, Musashi Delta e-Axle India Private Limited, which commenced mass production of its electric two-wheeler powertrains in June 2024. This supply network ensures that emerging EV manufacturers like Emobi can reliably scale up domestic assembly lines with volatile-insulated components, paving a clear, long-term pathway toward affordable and scaled clean transit throughout the country.
